ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH: GLOBAL/LOCAL CHALLENGES AND ACTIONSWe are looking forward to a safe and enjoyable EDRA 54 conference! EDRA understands that some locations in Mexico have recently been involved in incidents of violence and unrest - and that some cities are hotspots. We are watching national travel advisories for the most up-to-date information as we approach EDRA54. The latest regrettable episode that happened in the city of Matamoros is 593 miles from Mexico City. EDRA is working closely with UNAM, our local hosts in Mexico City, to provide a safe and secure event in June. Mexico City has a number of security mechanisms in place and hosts a tremendous number of visitors from all over the world. The local team has put in place the following precautions to welcome EDRA54 attendees: During the conference, and at established times, transportation will be provided from three conference designated hotels to the conference venue and back. Buses will depart from the conference venue for those who wish to attend the banquet, and transportation to their conference designated hotels will also be provided. The conference will be held on a university campus: UNAM has a complete security system in place. Currently, the US Department of State has no restrictions on traveling to Mexico City. As is good practice before any international travel departure, we recommend that those who plan to attend the conference check their country's travel advisory website for up-to-date information. We have added to the EDRA54 webapp valuable information on Mexico City weather, transportation options, useful tips and recommendations to experience this wonderful city at its best. Visit this link to access our webapp. See in Mexico City! EDRA54 MEXICO CITY ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTHEDRA 54 Mexico City will be an ideal space for researchers and practitioners to discuss and illustrate how environmental design may address current global challenges to recognize, identify, and/or describe:
We are interested in investigating possibilities and alternatives for action to effectively promote:
Tackling such problems implies being explicit about the design, research, and/or intervention actions in the natural and built environment, inviting us to think about and answer some questions: How can we provide more benefits from nature to make societies healthier and increase well-being? How can we get people and communities to act to be more proactive in the face of climate change? What are the external enablers and barriers in different contexts to improve living conditions? How is it possible to empower communities to develop solutions that respond to global challenges in locally adapted ways?
Additionally, EDRA54 will be in a Latin American country and will offer an opportunity for those who attend to get to know other realities, characteristics, situations, limitations, and achievements in the development of better places for all.
EDRA54 will take place in Mexico City at the UNAM's main campus, known as Ciudad Universitaria (University City). In July 2007, the Central Library and the University City's Central Campus was proclaimed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We look forward to showcasing how heritage landscapes can be a part of the future of cities and society during the conference.
